Literacy

Carry on just as we were doing in the Live lesson yesterday.
Have the model text in front of you and the check list of language features.

Finish changing the model text into your own versions so that you have 5 paragraphs of an extract of your own suspense story. Remember we are not writing the whole story! We are just writing a section of it. You should have already done the first 2 paragraphs so you have 3 more to do today.
You can stay as close to the model text as you want to in this version just changing certain events, characters and language choices. While doing this you can have everything in front of you that we have done so far, use all the other bits of Literacy work we have done for this piece of writing to help you.

Listen to the 2 different versions of the songs and answer the questions.

Do you like the second version of the song?
What is the style of the music?
How is this song different to version 1 - the original?

Can you find out what makes a piece of music 'Gospel?'

Find another piece of gospel music you like and send it to me, it would be nice to share them on the blog for others to listen to.

Thursday Home Learning - 21/01/21

 Maths

We're going to have another lesson on the short division written method today as I know we find this method particularly tricky.
Have a look on BBC Bitesize at the division lessons.
Have a go at short division using whole numbers as opposed to decimal numbers if needed.
Remember the decimal point never moves so whether it is a whole number or a decimal number, the written method for dividing it will be exactly the same.
Have a look at this website as well, there are decimal number questions at the bottom for you to have a go at.

Literacy

Shortburst sheet - Have a look at the sentences on the sheet. I have started with a really simple sentence 'The cat ran along the wall,' I have then adapted the sentence into different sentence types. Have a look at my example and see if you can have a go at your own. Make sure you completely change my sentence and don't just change the cat for another animal.

Main - Have a look at the 'openings and endings' toolkit. We have done lots of these in class before, it gives you ideas of language to use to create a good suspense story. The parts in red are the sentences I want you to write your own example of.

Science
Using the text you read the other day on electricity can you name the different units of measurement used in relation to electricity. What are their names and what do they measure?
All of the electrical appliances in our homes have a wattage, and the wattage of an appliance tells us how much power is needed to operate it – the higher the wattage, the more power is needed to operate the appliance. Make a list of appliances from around your home and put them under the headings of high wattage or low wattage depending on how much electricity you think they use.
Appliances that are louder / hotter / brighter / move more, usually require more energy.

While waiting to catch its prey, the Fox waited in the bushes.
The second set of sentences are the examples shown in the video. You need to write your own ones using ing/ed/ly openers.

Monday Home Learning - 11/01/21

 Morning Red Kites,

We are trialling some videos this week for Literacy with teaching inputs on them for you to watch and listen to so it should make it easier for you to carry your work out a bit more independently.
Please let me know if there are any issues with these so I can get it resolved ASAP.
You should be able to just click on the link and it will take you straight to them.
Also any feedback about the videos would be really helpful.

Maths

I have discovered last week that lots of you were finding the coordinates block quite tricky.
For today there is no white rose, I have set you some extra coordinates challenges to have a go at looking at reflection and translations.
Please just email if you are finding it hard and need any help.
Watch the video and follow the activities on the links.

Focus - Suspense story
Today you are going to start internalising the text.
This is when we learn it off by heart and add actions.
Today I would just like you to focus on the first paragraph.
You need to add actions and create your text map by drawing the images to go with it.
I have attached the whole text but for today just have a go at the first paragraph.
I've also put a photo of the last text map you did on Instructions to remind you. You will not need any subheadings on this one as it is a story. If there are any words you are unsure of, you can use a dictionary/internet to find their definitions.
You can create your text map on a plain piece of paper or in the pink exercise books you took home a little while ago. Remember to keep the images simple!
Parents/carers probably will not have seen this before, so this is your chance to show off your Talk4Writing skills!
