Persuasion Game - With someone at home have a go at persuading them. They need to pretend they are a snowman living in your garden. Your job is to use the best persuasive language you can to convince them to come inside to your warm kitchen.

Once you have found examples of each of the different language features create a poster/toolkit of them all for you to refer back to later on. This does not have to be presented in a particular way, this is just a tool for you to use when doing your writing to remind you of the different persuasive techniques you could use. Here is an example:

Questions

Music

You've got a friend - Carole King

Think about these questions while you listen to the music:
How does this song make you feel?
Does the song tell a story?
What does the sing make you think of?
How old is this piece of music?

Can you find the pulse and clap along to the rhythm.
Once you find the pulse, try and add a movement to go with it rather than clapping.
Can you tap your feet to the pulse? Shrug your shoulders? Bend your knees?

Once you've found a movement to go along with the beat, have a go at singing along.

Today's lesson is our 3rd and final day of internalising the text and creating our text map.

Keep going back over the parts you have already learnt so that you know them really well, we will be completing this unit once we are all back in school so it's important that we all know the text as well as we can.

Would love to see some videos of you performing the text!

Art

Have a look through the 6 different tapestries again and decide which one you like best and why.

Write a little bit about why you have chosen this tapestry, what drew you to it, can you pick out certain objects or feelings? This should be at least a paragraph worth of writing applying our literacy skills to this part of the curriculum.

Choose a section of your favourite tapestry and have a go at sketching it on a piece of paper. You could zoom in on a particular part and draw it in detail. Remember your sketching skills:

Use shading
Think about the light and dark parts
Think about how to hold your pencil to create a sketching effect
Don't press too hard so that if you make a mistake it is easily rubbed out.

Lesson 2 of imitation - internalising the text. Continue on from yesterday learning the model text through actions and creating a text map.

Make it as interesting as possible. Remember to keep repeating it throughout the day to really embed the new vocabulary. Look up any words you are unsure of so that you can use them in your own writing.

Reading

Chapter 14&15 of Varjak Paw

Art
Have a look at the tapestries created by Grayson Perry.

Write about each one using these stem sentences to help start you off. There are no wrong answers when it comes to interpreting art, it is about what you can see and what it makes you think of.
Remember we have discussed applying our writing skills from Literacy across the curriculum so try to incorporate your vocabulary and punctuation skills here too.

Stem sentences:
'I can see...'
Look really carefully into the detail of each of the tapestries and find as much detail as you can.
'I feel...'
Share your emotional reaction to each of the tapestry
'I think...'
Express your opinions and ideas about each of the tapestries thinking about how and why they were made.
'I wonder...'
Use this sentence stem to pose questions about each of the tapestries thinking of why, who, where and how.
Also try to talk about the different types of people in each of the tapestries, how are classes of people involved?

Once you have had a go at interpreting each of the tapestries have a look at this website to read about the ideas of the artist himself and his ideas for each one.

Literacy

We're going to start our persuasive writing unit this week.

Today we're going to start the imitation phase of our writing. This is when we internalise the text through words and actions to learn the persuasive language we could use in our own piece of writing.

Create your text map as you go to help remind you of the actions you have created. Remember the more confident you are at performing the text, the better your own writing will be.

There are lots of fun and interesting ways you can internalise the text:

Create funny actions
Sing it
Use different voices/accents
Get other family members involved and challenge each other at internalising different parts
Take it in turns with someone at home, one sentence at a time.
Don't just keep it to your Literacy hour, say it at the dinner table, while out walking, watching TV.
Remember you need to be saying it in your sleep!

HOT TASK

Today you're going to write your own poem.

The model poem describes a cat trying to keep out of the wind.
In yesterdays live lesson we wrote a poem together about a fox that was trying to escape from thunder.
Today you need write a poem based on another animal trying to escape or hide from another type of weather.
At the start of the week you created a toolkit of all the different language features you could find in the model poem. You can have this to refer to while doing your hot task but nothing else.
Remember once you have finished you can use dictionaries and thesaurus' to check spellings and improve vocabulary. Please make sure you do this in a different colour so that I can see which parts you have edited.
You need to have a minimum of 3 verses to your poem, it doesn't have to include rhyming but try to use formal language. Refer back to Tuesdays lesson on formal language if you need to.
Remember to spend 1 hour on your Hot Task - no more.

Today we are going to be looking at formal language. Have a look at the PowerPoint to see how formal language can be incorporated into your writing. Go back to the model text and underline any words or phrases you think could be classed as being formal language that you could magpie for your own poem.
On Thursday we will be innovating the poem in our live lesson, the model poem is based on wind so we are going to write one together based on thunder. Come up with some descriptive words/phrases to bring with you to the live lesson, if you would find it easier have a go at drawing an illustration of what you think the poem could look like.

Read through the model poem and highlight any words or phrases you like and want to remember to magpie for your own. Label any language features you can find that we have looked at before, we will be talking about these in Thursdays live lesson. This could for example be similes. Make your own poetry toolkit of what you think a good poem would include. Think about the model poem, what is it describing? Try illustrating the poem through using the description used in the text.

Today I would like you to do the imitation stage of our writing.

This is when we learn the text through actions and pictures. Try and learn the poem so that you know it off by heart and then create a text map of images to help you remember it. It is up to you how you do this. You can either learn the poem first and then create the text map or you can create the text map as you learn it to help you remember it verse by verse just as we would in school.

Please remember you must not have anymore than 1 hour on your cold task. This is an independent task with minimal input for you to show what you can do. If it is not finished after the literacy hour this does not matter.
