Oliver has been busy using his science skills again today as well as some art skills thrown in as well. Looks like some great teamwork has gone on to create some very effective fossils.

Some lovely work done by Neave, really like the creativeness of your french family tree incorporating your art skills.

Neave has also been thinking about our Literacy and has drawn a great picture of a shark ready for getting going with it again next week!

Well done Neave :)

Running out of things to do?

When we were in school we had a go at making shark origami that I know a lot of you really enjoyed. Unfortunately we never got chance to finish it. Here is the link if you want to have a go at home...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OdeCfjnsxA8&t=1s

If you were finding that one too challenging here is an easier version for you to follow.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBck1ccjRkY

There are 100's of videos on youtube that you can follow to make any animal you like. Have a go at one of your favourites and send me a picture of the result: misscraven2020@carlton-in-snaith.n-yorks.sch.uk

If origami isn't your thing....

Can you create a shark logo we could put up in the classroom during our sharks Literacy unit? The more creative the better. You won't be able to bring this into school but you can send me a photo and we can print it off.

Oliver has been showing off his science skills by teaching his brothers how to create tornadoes in a bottle.

He's also had a go at the Marvel PE session, looks like you all had great fun!

Marvellous Me!

I have sent out some Marvellous Me badges this morning to those of you doing some fantastic home learning! You're really showing your independence, maturity and resilience. Keep it up Red Kites.

If you have been doing some marvellous home learning or other family fun activities, remember to send them to me at misscraven2020@carlton-in-snaith.n-yorks.sch.uk

Minecraft PE going on in Leila's house today....think her poor mum is very worn out!

You will definitely have to give us all a lesson back at school Leila.

Annie has been busy the last couple of days...think the look on your face in that yoga pose says it all haha! Great to see you having a go at some stretches and using the internet for an active activity.

A very French family tree too...a really good layout that is clear to read. Miss Craven does not know much French and I can clearly work out who is who in your family. Well done for extending your knowledge to more family members.

A lovely idea for a principle card too. Spread positivity....we can all have days where our positivity wavers and we feel more half empty than half full. As long as we understand we can all feel this way and we work to help those people to turn that glass upside down back to half full then we know we are doing something good. Every cloud has a silver lining! We can always find something good in any dark cloud. We should work to spread this everywhere we go.

Oliver's principle card.

I like the colours you have used on this Oliver, it really goes along with the principle you have chosen. Being happy is an integral part of our lives. Happiness determines how we treat ourselves as well as those around us. Even on hard days it's important we try and find the happiness within. Every cloud has a silver lining. Being kind, a hugely paramount principle we should all work hard to achieve. Treating others how we would like to be treated is a motto I always like to stick by. It can make a massive difference to someone's day/week simply by another person offering them kindness in someway. This does not have to be a large gesture, kindness can be shown in the smallest of ways.

If you want to send me any work you have been doing from the blog or any other exciting things you have been getting up to I'd love to have a look.

Send me an email to misscraven2020@carlton-in-snaith.n-yorks.sch.uk

Niamh's principle card.

A wonderful principle for us all to remember. We are all different, not one human being on the planet is alike. But that's what makes the world interesting! Nothing exciting would happen in our world if we all liked the same things, if we all wanted the same job. The world would be a much duller place if we were all the same. It's profoundly important that we remember to accept each other for our differences and even encourage our peers to be proud of our unique qualities. We may not always agree with people's choices, but we have to accept that we all have the right to make our own choices with our own lives. No one has the right to determine who is beautiful. We are all beautiful inside and out!

Remember to send me your principle cards to misscraven2020@carlton-in-snaith.n-yorks.sch.uk

Leila's principle card.

Absolutely love this Leila, I think it is one of the most simple yet effective principles every single person can follow. It means the same in all languages across the world, we all understand a smile. The positive impact you can have on someone's day is enormous simply by smiling at them. It lets people know you're there which at the moment is something we all need! Not being able to be tactile by giving each other a hug can be detrimental to us all. A smile however can be done 100% socially distanced! A great principle Leila, thankyou :)

Home Learning Week 2 Wider Curriculum - w/c 21.9.20

 Wider Curriculum Activities - RE

What matters most to Christians, Humanists?

Mon - PE
Outdoor Activities - Website with lots of games and activities to do inside or out
Marvel Workout - for all you superhero fans out there
Other PE activities you could have a go at depending on your space and equipment:
  • Yoga
  • Throwing and catching balls/beanbags
  • Skipping competitions
  • Kicking a ball into a net
  • Setting up obstacle courses
Tue RE- Do rules matter? Why? What is a code for living?
Choose 3 Villains from different films/stories. What rules do each of them break? What affect does it have on the people around them?
How can we then apply these thoughts to everyday life? What rules might we break, and what consequences could we cause? Even if we don't follow through with the rule breaking, can we often have rule breaking thoughts caused from particular emotions such as jealousy? Can you think of any other emotions that could cause you to break certain rules? These aren't just school rules but 'rules' we follow as good citizens in everyday life, another word for this would be principles.
Can you think of any principles we follow that make people happier? Can you create a 'principle card' suggesting a rule for people to follow that would make for a happier world. Send a picture of them to the class email and I will post them on the blog so we can all share our rules for making a happier world

Wed - PE
Outdoor Activities - Website with lots of games and activities to do inside or out
Marvel Workout - for all you superhero fans out there
Other PE activities you could have a go at depending on your space and equipment:
  • Yoga
  • Throwing and catching balls/beanbags
  • Skipping competitions
  • Kicking a ball into a net
  • Setting up obstacle courses
French -
Have a go at creating a family tree in French. you can design it however you like.

Thurs RE - Who is a humanist? What codes for living do non-religious people use?
Do you follow a religion? Does everyone follow the same religion? Does everyone follow a religion?
Some religious people try to be 'good with God' but others believe you can be 'good without God.'
Humanists UK - only need to watch the first 2 mins.
Think about these rules or principles:
  • Be honest
  • Use your mind
  • Tell the truth
  • Do to other people what you would like them to do to you
Why do we need these rules or principles? What could happen if someone didn't follow them? these are the rules humanists try to follow. Think back to your villains from yesterday, were any of them following these values? Can you think of characters that do? Draw them and explain how they are or aren't following these values.

Fri - RE
Bible texts to read
From these 2 readings what values do you think Jesus was showing that he wanted people to follow? What things did Jesus not value? Jesus often compared peoples actions to fruits.  the roots are down inside us, hidden thoughts and intentions, but what you do shows what you value.
Create a tree showing the roots, trunk, branches and fruits. On the fruits write on the words you choose to represent good actions. Write onto the branches what leads to these good actions.

Hit the Button!

Has your child used Hit the Button recently?

It's a great website for children aged 5-11 to help them to learn those all important number facts that so much of their Maths work is based upon.

  • They can start by learning the number facts which make 10, then move on to making 20 or 100.
  • Also the children need to learn by heart doubling and halving facts for different numbers.
  • This website also allows the children to work on individual or mixed times tables. Both multiplication and division. Feel free to make this part of the children's daily routine whilst off school, it's fun and can only help their mental recall
